Charter of Coalition BOIS Québec

 

Whereas:

  • The Government of Quebec has included the objective of sustainable development
    in its strategic directions;
  • Consumers increasingly demand to know the source of their goods and are more aware
    of their environmental footprint;
  • It is in the interest of forestry and wood-related trades that Quebec be known for its commitment
    to environmentally friendly practices;
  • Materials designed in an environmentally friendly manner will become increasing available on markets and it is important to use the proper materials for the best purposes;
  • Elected officials, decision makers, designers, manufacturers and builders would like to send
    a strong message regarding their commitment to sustainable development;
  • The interest shown by the sectors concerned justifies the creation of a wood coalition in Quebec.

 

Signatories to the Charter declare that:

  • They consider the increased use of wood in for building purposes as a priority;
  • Wood can play a major role in carbon sequestration and is both renewable and recyclable;
  • The priority use of wood, where appropriate, contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions;
  • The use of wood from forests managed with respect to sustainable development principles is consistent with the social, environmental and economic objectives of the Kyoto Protocol;
  • The increased use of wood in the Quebec construction sector will contribute to reducing
    the environmental footprint of buildings;
  • They will continue to seek an optimal combination of different construction materials
    by developing each one’s energy, ecological, social and environmental qualities;
  • They agree, each in their own field of expertise and in collaboration with other Charter signatories,
    to create conditions that will lead to the increased use of wood products.
